The following is a list of scholarships that have historically been awarded annually to Plainwell High School graduates. We keep previous scholarships posted here because it helps students know what to expect. We will update with current dates when we hear from the scholarships sponsors.  Scholarships are usually updated sometime after Christmas break.

Advia Youth Scholarship Program
At Advia, we celebrate and promote education that engages, enriches, and inspires our young people to develop knowledge and skills for life-long financial competence. Investing in our future leaders through our Youth Scholarship Program is one small way we give back to our communities. Scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors who exhibit academic achievement, leadership skills, and commitment to community. Application due on March 31, 2023.

Allegan County Agricultural Society Scholarship Fund
This scholarship is for students who are planning on pursuing a post-secondary education and have participated in exhibiting at the Allegan County Fair for three out of four of their high school years. If you are interested in applying for this scholarship please complete the application as soon as possible. You must include three personal photos, and forward it to the college counselor or teacher you have selected to complete the appraisal. Mail to Allegan County Fair Board or deliver to the fair office by April 1, 2024.

Arbor Financial Community Scholarship
Arbor Financial will be giving out twelve $2,000 scholarships to high school seniors in the state of Michigan. The essay question for this year  is: Share a time when you achieved a goal as part of a team and how it impacted you.  The application deadline is February 1, 2024.

Bruce Miller Memorial Scholarship
The Plainwell Education Foundation is proud to offer The Bruce Miller Memorial Scholarship. Bruce Miller was a Plainwell High School graduate who continued his education at Ferris State University.  If you are planning on continuing your education in welding or another industrial trade you have the chance to be awarded a $1,000 scholarship in memory of Bruce Miller. Bruce worked in the Mechanical field all his life and finished up his work experience at Eaton Corp as a Technical Service Manager. His family and friends want to help others who want to work as a mechanic or in the technical field. Applications are to be emailed or mailed to the address on the application by March 18, 2024.

DC Strong Scholarship- In Memory of Dustan Colyer
Dustan Colyer graduated from Plainwell High School in 2012. He was the founder of DC Strong which is a non-profit organization that helps children across the country who are battling cancer. Dustan fought cancer on and off for most of his 23 years of life, but didn't let his diagnosis dictate his life. Dustan left a legacy of determination and will to beat the odds, while using his own struggles to help others. Applicants of the DC Strong scholarship should be able to show the same drive and determination in their own lives and explain how they have used their struggles in a positive way. The written essay is the heaviest weighed factor in making our decision (grades and accomplishments are only considered). The recipients will be selected by the DC Strong Scholarship Committee. Turn in application by April 1, 2022 to the Student Services Office or email to jessica.hembree@plainwellschools.org.

D.K. Sprague Educational Scholarship Endowment
The D.K. Sprague Educational Scholarship Endowment has been developed by Gun Lake Tribe and is committed to providing financial assistance to area high school students planning to attend a college, university, institute or trade school. This scholarship is open to all area high school students who meet eligibility requirements and do not need be a Gun Lake Tribal Citizen, Citizen of any other federally recognized tribe or of Tribal or Indigenous descent. The application and required documentation should be submitted in one submission by 11:59 p.m. March 10, 2023.

D.K. Sprague Educational Scholarship Application

Fidelity Masonic Lodge & Masonic Foundation of Michigan Scholarship
Annually, in conjunction with the Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation and Fidelity Masonic Lodge #513, located in downtown Otsego at 135 East Allegan Street, we award three $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors. The Scholarships are on a revolving basis, Martin, Otsego and Plainwell. This years class of 2024 is eligible for the scholarship.This application is due to the PHS Student Services office by 3:00pm on February 28, 2024. Applications are available in Student Services.

Gun Lake Casino Scholarship
Gun Lake Casino strives to be an active partner in the community through it Charitable Giving Program. This scholarship’s purpose is to provide financial support to Allegan County students that are pursuing higher education. Please use the link below for a PDF of this application. Criteria includes a 2.5 GPA or higher, 2 letters of recommendation and a maximum of a 1,000 word essay.  Applications are due to Student Services by March 27, 2024.

Honor Credit Union Community Commitment Scholarship
Honor Credit Union is going to be awarding 28, $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors in our community. The application will include an essay answering the following question, "How have you helped make your community a better place?". JBS Scholarship
JBS takes price in supporting the educational goals of our community members and their families. JBS believe education plays a critical role in the future strength of our communities. They are committed to building long lasting relationships with our community members and contributing to the promotion of financial health for a lifetime. As an example of their commitment JBS will be offering a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior at Plainwell High School. The due date for this scholarship is March 18, 2024. Michigan Education Association Scholarship 2024
The Michigan Education Association is an organization dedicated to the principles of public education, advancement of quality education, and security of the rights of education employees. There are approximately 120,000 members of MEA, who are public K-12 teachers and education support professionals; higher education faculty and educational support personnel; employees of intermediate school districts; and MEA-Retired members. The application deadline is Thursday, February 15, 2024, applications need to be received by MEA by this date.

PHS Boosters Senior Scholarship
The boosters are excited to open our senior scholarship applications to include all students involved in any club or team here at PHS. Each year, we provide up to four scholarships (dependent upon funds available) to graduating seniors. We require a minimum of ten hours helping the Plainwell High School Boosters with activities (such as selling apparel or working in the concession stand) in order to apply for the senior scholarship. Again, students also earn community service hours volunteering for the Boosters while fulfilling their student scholarship application requirement.  Please email your application via email by Friday March 28, 2024, jorgs1975@gmail.com

Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to any graduate of any Allegan County Public High School who intends to pursue full time post-secondary high school education or training in a state-accredited college or trade school. Preference is given to students pursuing a degree in education. Students must have a GPA of at least 2.5. Return your application to Student Services by April 8, 2024.
